Boards & Commissions
Wanted! Bright, talented, community minded citizens interested in making a difference in our township. If you feel that you have the talents, the time, and the understanding to help your township, please complete the Statement of Interest Form (PDF) and fax, mail or email it to the township office.
Each year, several terms expire on multiple boards and commissions. Take a glance through the list of volunteer groups below to see if there is one that fits you!
Audit Advisory Committee (AAC)
We’re seeking several individuals who have direct professional accounting or finance experience. The members of the AAC serve three-year terms, but no more than two consecutive terms. The Committee meets the 1st Tuesday in March, June, September & December at 6:00 PM. To see duties of the AAC, please visit the Audit Advisory Committee page.
Building Code Board of Appeals (BCBA)
The BCBA consists of three members who serve three-year terms. They meet as needed to hear appeals from applicants seeking a variance to the Building Code. The members of the BCBA must have direct knowledge of construction and only meet if there is an appeal filed.
Environmental Advisory Council (EAC)
The EAC consists of five members who serve three-year terms. They meet on the 2nd Monday of each month at 7 p.m. To see duties of the EAC, please see Chapter 1 Part 2D of the Township's Codified Ordinance.
Library Board of Directors
The Lower Macungie Library is a nonprofit corporation governed by a seven-member Board of Directors who are appointed by the Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners. Complete details of the Directors, meetings and more can be found in the Library's Bylaws.
The Board of Directors meet on the last Thursday of each month at 5:15pm in the library.
Park and Recreation Advisory Committee (P&R)
This Committee consists of five residents who meet quarterly with the Director of Recreation and the Parks and Facilities Director to review programming, parks and recreation facilities for advisement on recreation needs. They meet on the last Wednesday of the month in January, April, July & October at 6 p.m. The duties and objectives are specified in Ordinance 2022-06.
Planning Commission (PC)
The PC consists of five members who serve four-year terms. They meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. to review any planning submissions. If needed, they hold a workshop on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. to review possible changes needed to ordinances. All applicants will have an interview with the Board of Commissioners on November 27th or December 21st at 6 p.m.
Public Safety Advisory Committee (PSAC)
This Committee consists of three residents who meet quarterly with members of Township Staff, the Fire Department, the Ambulance Corps, and Emergency Management. They meet the 2nd Wednesday of the month in January, April, July & October at 6 p.m. The Committee reviews any general safety, health and welfare concerns. The duties and objectives are specified in Ordinance 2022-06.
Vacancy Board
The Vacancy Board consists of one appointed citizen and the Board of Commissioners. Should a vacancy on the Board of Commissioners occur and the remaining commissioners become deadlocked on the choice for a replacement, the Vacancy Board then convenes to choose a replacement. Term expires the 1st Monday in January every year.
Zoning Hearing Board (ZHB)
The ZHB consists of five members who serve four-year terms. They meet on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m., on an as needed basis; (except the November and December meetings are the 3rd Tuesdays, if needed) to hear appeals to the Zoning Ordinance. All applicants will have an interview with the Board of Commissioners on November 27th or December 21st at 6 p.m.
The deadline to receive applications is December 11th.
